Handling & Storage
Handling & Storage
To be most effective, desiccants should be used within a closed/sealed moisture barrier or a rigid sealed container. This allows the desiccant to absorb only the trapped water vapor and/or odor molecules inside the package and extends the protection. Products should be packaged in a manner that does not allow additional water vapor in the enclosed environment.
Unused desiccants should be stored inside an airtight container. The containers we use to ship desiccants satisfy this requirement. Due to the moisture-adsorbent properties of desiccants, certain precautions should be taken:
- Remove the lid slowly to vent air.
- Do not leave the container open for any longer than is necessary for withdrawal of the product.
- Reseal the lid immediately after withdrawal and keep inner bags tightly closed.
- Keep unused product out of direct sunlight and avoid storing in extreme temperatures to extend the life of your desiccants.
- Use a Humidity Indicating Card inside your packaging or cartons to show humidity levels and indicate when the desiccant needs to be replaced.
