Estimate the Right Desiccant Amount for Your Packaging
Estimate the approximate amount of desiccant needed for your packaging application based on storage conditions, humidity levels, packaging material, and storage duration. Designed for packaging engineers, procurement teams, pharmaceutical manufacturers, electronics companies, and industrial packaging professionals.
How This Calculator Works
Exterior storage temperature and humidity
These conditions determine how much moisture exposure your package will face during storage and transit. Higher heat and humidity levels increase the moisture load entering the package over time.
Maximum allowable interior humidity
This defines the highest relative humidity your product can safely tolerate inside the package. The lower the allowable humidity, the more desiccant may be required to maintain protection.
Water Vapor Transmission Rate (WVTR) of the packaging material
WVTR measures how much moisture can pass through the packaging material over a given period. Barrier materials with lower WVTR values typically require less desiccant for long-term storage.
Interior package surface area
The total internal surface area helps estimate the potential moisture exchange occurring within the package environment. Larger package sizes generally require greater moisture control capacity.
Storage duration
Longer storage periods allow more moisture to permeate through the packaging material over time. Extended storage or overseas shipping often increases desiccant requirements significantly.
Desiccant adsorption performance by type
Different desiccants absorb moisture differently depending on humidity and temperature conditions. Selecting the correct desiccant type helps improve performance, efficiency, and long-term protection.

The calculator provides an estimated desiccant requirement based on the inputs provided. Actual moisture-control needs may vary depending on packaging design, storage conditions, shipping environments, and product characteristics.
Yes. The calculator can be used to estimate desiccant requirements for food, pharmaceutical, and other moisture-sensitive products. However, applications subject to regulatory requirements should be reviewed by a packaging specialist.
The ideal desiccant depends on your humidity targets and application requirements. Silica gel is widely used for general moisture control, clay offers an economical solution for many applications, and molecular sieve is preferred when very low humidity levels must be maintained.
If you are unsure of your package's Water Vapor Transmission Rate (WVTR), our technical team can help estimate it and recommend packaging materials that meet your moisture protection goals.
The calculator is intended as a planning and estimation tool. We recommend package testing and technical validation before finalizing packaging specifications for critical applications.
Absolutely. Our specialists can assist with desiccant selection, barrier packaging, humidity control strategies, and custom moisture-protection solutions tailored to your product and environment.
